The Reign of Fear: Violet, Child of Topaz

No one for sure how Arceus came into the world, except by an egg. But whoever laid the egg was never made known. But, it is whispered that when Arceus was born, so was a terrible evil. Arceus tried to destroy it, but found that it couldn’t. After making the Earth habitable by creating the realms of Time, Space and Dimension, it was said to make Cresselia, who would be the vessel of light. In retaliation the great evil gave birth to Darkrai. Darkrai and Cresselia fought but were again evenly matched. So they decided to carry on their fight by getting the help of two humans…

Violet Hayden sat in a beautiful throne room, next to her master, Cresselia. You knew she was thinking about something because her lips were slightly twisted. Her bright, emerald green eyes clashed with her magenta hair, which she was twisting around on one finger. “What bothers you child?” Cresselia asked. Her voice was not unlike that of a swan. Soft, but had a slight shriek to it like a goose.

“Cresselia, what is my purpose? What good do I do serving you?” Violet asked. She wasn’t one for philosophy, so this was clearly a pressing concern on her mind. Violet would rather just take action or do orders. She was rash, something she did not get from either of her parents.

“You do a great good. I was born with the purpose of fighting Darkrai, which you do when you face your sister. You stall her before she plunges the world into eternal darkness. Do not fret, child.”

“I kind of have to.” Violet snapped. “I hate just stalling her. I want to stop her and Darkrai for good.”

“That will come sooner than you think. Think back child. You did something so powerful, no other human could manage it.”

Cresselia was referring to how Violet took control of all the forces of life, which was a terrible ordeal. She lost a lot that day. Unbidden, the memories came anyway…

“Look! She’s standing up now!” the proud mother cooed. Primerose Romania V was watching over her two children, Violet and Heather, with her fiancée Drew. Drew smiled, although almost to himself.

They had an unlikely relationship that was almost at marriage now. A year and half ago, Primerose and Drew found themselves needing each other. Not necessarily sexually at first, but just to depend upon. Despite her slightly lazy, spoiled attitude, Primerose was unwaveringly generous and dependable. Drew was smart, cool, and emotionally strong. They each needed that.

It wasn’t without its problems, however. May had then decided to go and seek out Lucian, her new love interest afterwards. Gary and Primerose had a temporary fall out, and Dawn left the group on her own. The group then decided to go their own ways. Then, Drew found out that May was with Lucian, which hurt him. Lucian was dramatically older and a member of the Shinnoh Elite 4. Primerose had coldly told him (since she was upset over his recent change in emotions) “It’s her choice to be with a psychic. Besides, I beat him in battle. He’s hardly better than you.”

“What is that suppose to mean, O Wise One?”

“Nothing more than the fact that you should stop being jealous, unless you want to lose me too.” She sniffed.

“I can get any other girl I want.” And he left, on a mindless journey, making sure May was at least alright. After a year, he returned and the last six months they spent in love making, and reconnecting.

        Then Primerose got pregnant.

Drew found her, amber eyes wide in the bathroom one morning in Primerose’s summer house in La Rosse City, Drew’s hometown, and home of Primerose’s aunt, Professor Rose.

“Rose?” he asked, taking her into his arms.

“I’m pregnant.” She said, a small tear running down her pale cheek. Then she smiled and hugged a shocked Drew. “I’m pregnant! I’m pregnant!”

And then everything picked up so quickly. The nine months came and went, and then came the time for the delivery…

“She’s losing too much blood!” a nurse shouted.

For unknown reasons, the healthy, normal pregnancy took a drastic turn for the worst when Primerose started to lose a lot of blood. But then, the twins slid out.

“Well, no wonder,” Said the female doctor, who held the older twin fondly in her arms. “Twins are more harmful to the mother.”

Primerose managed to recover a few days later. Then she and Drew went home with the twins, whom they named Violet and Heather.

Presently, Violet was now walking. “Baba?” she muttered, holding out her tiny hands towards Primerose. Heather, on the other hand just watched, with cold black eyes. Drew looked carefully at both twins.

“Rose... neither of them look like me.” He noted. They hardly looked like Primerose either. Violet had the pinkish hair, although it was almost magenta. Heather had black hair, and black eyes. Violet had green eyes, the only semblance to Drew.

“I guess I was more dominating in the gene-pool. Heather has every feature from my father’s side of the family.” She answered, unconcerned, with Violet now in her arms. “Who’s Mommy’s little princess?”

“Mama!” Violet said happily. Her first word.

“Her first word! Clearly she knows her mommy. Now go say hi to daddy.” Primerose smiled and held Violet out to Drew.

        “Roselia!” she said to Drew.

Drew blinked, looking into those emerald eyes. They were his, but that was all. Not even his nose, or thick hair.

“She isn’t my kid. Rose… who did you have it with for real?”

“Drew! How dare you!” she snapped. “I didn’t sleep with anyone else besides you.”

“Those kids… they don’t look like us very much.”

Primerose scooped up Heather and stalked away to the baby’s room and slammed the door.

“Don’t listen to him. He’s your father. I never slept with anyone else since I got with him, and for me that’s a milestone.” She kissed both children, and took a good look at them again.

Violet looked like them, sort of. Heather, however, did not look very much like Drew and more like her father, Giovonni. She decided to prove it to Drew.

She took down the portrait on the wall of the Romania family currently. In the front were the babies of the time. Corey, her eldest brother, was nearly a teen, Silver was roughly eight, and she was 6. Cousins Reggie and Paul were next to Aunt Rose, who was holding a newborn baby, cousin Myra. Narcissus was standing proudly, radiating her beauty. Giovonni was there, a hand on Corey’s shoulder. Grandma Romania, who had curly silvery hair with a single red strand in it, was in a wheelchair near Narcissus. Grandmama Rhapsody was there as well, almost a dried out leaf in a chair near Giovonni. She had pure black hair that for some reason never faded away to silver.

She held it in front of Drew.

“Proof that Heather is our kid too.” She said. It was true. Giovonni, Grandmama Rhapsody and Corey had pure black hair.

“I suppose then I was wrong to outright accuse.” Drew said, and the two sealed their forgiveness with a kiss.

That night, while everyone else was sleeping, Violet was dreaming. She was in a far off place, and unsure of her surroundings. It wasn’t the plush lap of luxury she crawled around. “Mama? Roselia?” she called out in her dream, being her only two words.

“No, little one.” A voice answered.

        “Mama?”

“I am Cresselia. Can you say that?” a beautiful purple and gold swan appeared, radiating beautiful energy.

“Seelia!” Violet said happily. She then blushed a bit as she wet her diaper.

“No worries, little one, for you will learn. Every time you dream from now on, I will appear to you and begin your training. You will one day understand everything I will do, and thank me for it.” Cresselia said, and vanished.

        “Seelia? Come home.” Violet whispered.

Suddenly, Cresselia did appear. “You are learning already. Good, that will speed up my intentions drastically.”

And thus, every night, Violet would learn words and about art, the most important things. Then it changed to studying mythology as she grew. She never told her mother or father about it either. It was her secret, something she wanted for herself. She only told Heather, because Heather told her first about a strange dream of darkness that told her she must become an acolyte of Darkness.

Eventually, they both became of age to become Pokémon trainers. Violet already had a pet Buizel she was taking with her, and Heather a revived Cranidos.

They went together and then their dreams intensified.

“You are at age for my missions. You will use everything you have learned to accomplish this.” Cresselia one day ordered Violet.

“Why?” asked Violet. “What’s the point of all this? Great, you sped up my education, but why?”

“Simply put, child, you must do your duties. You do not want Darkrai to rule the world do you?”

        “No!” Violet answered defiantly.

“Then do as you are told, and there shall be rewards for every living being, especially you, their new leader in the times to come.”

The first mission was to locate the Tiara of Life. Violet was not allowed to touch it, just find it and report to Cresselia at once. Violet got up in the middle of the night, without even writing a note to Heather, and went off on her search.

It did not take long at all. In a place called Giant Chasm. It was guarded by Kyurem, an Ice Dragon. It leaked out powerful, frozen energy that could only be seen or felt by a being sensitive to the moon, such as herself. Violet was becoming more and more firm in her belief that she wasn't really the child of Primerose or Drew at all, and that they just fertilized a seed implanted from Cresselia. Cresselia, after all, had watched her as she grew from a baby and taught her things she never learned from her parents.

That night, after observing the sleeping Kyurem guard the Tiara of Life, she reported to Cresselia.

"It is guarded by the Ice Dragon itself, who is in a deep sleep." she reported. Cresselia nodded.

"That is fine. We know it is safe. Of all things, that cannot be shattered."

"Why?" Violet asked, confused. It was just a tiara after all.

"It protects us from the doom Darkrai wishes to bring about. He wants Heather to smash it. It is our job to prevent him from accomplishing it. My job for protecting the world from Darkrai is nearly at an end, Violet."

Violet was confused by such words."Why Seelia? Is something wrong?"

"As I told you, my reason for being created was to stop Darkrai. I sense that we are close winning. But what happens afterwards is what scares me... That not knowing what will happen."

"Are people and Pokemon only born with a reason? Not to find it themselves?" Violet blinked her emerald eyes.

"I believe that both are correct. You and your sister were both born with a purpose, and when your original purpose is done, you may go and make a new purpose for yourselves. The meaning of life is a mystery once your original purpose is served." Cresselia answered softly. "I fear my own death after this is over. Arceus, my king, made me with a single reason. To undo the effects of Darkrai."

"But once you do that, you just said yourself that you can make your new purpose." Violet said.

"But the question for me is: do I want that?"

Violet stopped questioning and stood, waiting for next assignment.

"I believe that Darkrai and your sister have provoked the Shape-Shifter Trio. They are aware of our activities as well. You must make sure that you take and use the Elixir of LIfe by any means possible." Cresselia said, fading away and the golden throne room was starting to turn back into the entrance of Giant Chasm.

"Wait! If it's an elixir, does that include drinking it?" Violet called.

"If you want to be immortal, and live to see the end of the world you know, then sure. I don't think you ought to but after you gain control of it, it is yours to do what you think is correct. It can be used for either good or evil. If Heather or the Shape-Shifters get it, the people and Pokemon will not respect you like they ought to because the threads of fate are not in your hands. You would have no power to sway them to listen to you with." Cresselia said, a tinge of anxiety in her soft goose voice. Violet laid down, and soon fell asleep. When she woke up, she was back within the Giant Chasm, the portal to Cresselia closed. She didn't know where to go or what to do from here. She decided to gather information of the Elixir of Life. But first, she had to make a phone call.

"Kaori?" she spoke into her Pokegear, after dialing the number.

"Hello? Violet? Where are you?" Karoi answered, her voice sounding concerned.

"I'm exploring Giant Chasm. I wish to see the Ice Dragon up close. I just wanted to touch base with you, love." Violet said climbing along the slushy rock surfaces, struggling to hang on whenever her fingers slipped.

"Oh, I see. I miss you Violet. I wish you would stop going away so much so we could go together sometimes." Kaori said in reply.

"Is that a confession of love?" Violet teased. "Just kidding. No worries, I need to rejoin you anyway. Being away from you makes me feel deprived." Violet said, smiling in spite of herself.

"I'll hurry over to Undella Town so we can play on the beach tomorrow." Kaori said. There was a noise of a Pokeball opening, presumably of Musharna, who would take Karoi wherever she needed to go.

"Perfect. I'll be there." Violet said. "Love you, I gotta go now." she clicked the phone off. She climbed up to the top of the ledge that lead into Giant Chasm, and sat down. She opened the map function of the Pokegear and smiled. The Undella Ruins were near the beach. That was the perfect place to find an Elixir of Life.

"Violet!" Kaori greeted the weary magenta girl with a huge hug. Violet, who was deeply attracted to Kaori, couldn't resist rubbing the edge of her back, near her butt. They kissed for a split second, and then grinned at each other, running for the beach changing rooms. Violet and Kaori changed into their bikinis and ran into the water.

Violet felt free and surprisingly happy in the warm water. When her air supply ran low, she swam to the surface, Kaori following after. The dark purple-haired girl grinned at Violet again, clearly enjoying herself. Musharna floated overhead, blocking the blistering sunlight for them. The pink and purple tapir Pokemon was curled up as if it were asleep, although Violet knew it wasn't.

It was time to let Kaori in on the plan.

"Kaori, remember how I told you I am a servant of Cresselia?" Violet asked. Her magenta hair was plastered to her pale skin, water sparkling on her long eyelashes.

"Yeah, I remember. Why what's up?"

"Well, I need your help. There's a place not far from here, underwater, called Undella Ruins. It's home to the Elixir of Life."

"I heard the Undella Ruins was home to a lot of treasures in honor of Arceus." Kaori said quietly, letting what she was just told sink in.

"Cresselia wishes to protect the Elixir of Life by keeping it away from Darkrai and with her. But imagine if we went, and took all the treasure? We'd make a bundle and then we could save it for the future. Imagine how impressed Drake would be with us? He'd finally recognize our potential, though that jerk shouldn't need to be impressed for that." Violet knew that Kaori loved Drake, and that even mentioning his name would get her interested.

"I know, right? We shouldn't have to do anything to impress him and yet here we are, about to do just that. Oooh it just burns me up inside."

"Don't burn yet. Wait til you actually have the treasures in your hands." Violet said, splashing Kaori, which caused her fairly dry ponytail to get soaked and slap down onto her face.

"Gee, thanks Vi." Kaori said, pushing Violet into the water. The two stared at each other underwater, with puffy cheeks full of air, their hair floating in the clear, blue water. Then they came up for air. "So any ideas where to start our search for the ruins?"

"Indeed, I believe that way." Violet pointed out further to sea, which was an endless blue radiance. "In a deep part we'll find it."

"Be neither of us have a Pokemon to dive down that far." Kaori said, a tinge of panic creeping into her voice. "And we'd drown in the currents."

Violet swam to the beach, and Kaori followed. "No duh for all of that. That's why we have to get scuba gear."

"But the shack is closed..." Kaori pointed to the row of closed beach shops. It was spring, an off season for the beach. That's why they had the beach to themselves. "Cresselia have anything for scuba diving?"

"She closed the portal on me last night. I'm afraid I have no way of summoning another one." Violet said. That was degrading. Heather could always summon Darkrai on will and always communicate through a mirror she carried with her.

"Isn't that kind of suspicious? That your own master would leave you to fend for yourself at a time like this?" Kaori asked, staring at the water again, thinking of Drake.

"What?! I can take care of myself quite well, thanks. I just didn't think it would be hard to get to some scuba gear." Violet looked at Kaori, looking weary. "Besides what are you getting at? Cresselia doesn't want me and I should give up my fight against Heather? Cause that's a...."

Kaori put a finger to Violet's lips, to silence her. "Shhh, no I don't mean it that way. I just find it strange she didn't prepare you for this better. She just threw you out into the open, with no knowledge. Are you sure it's even down there?"

"It's the most logical place for it. But maybe I better go down alone. If currents are that bad there, I can't risk..."

There was a thick layer of silence. Kaori didn't want to admit it, but she did love Violet and hated for her to go through with this alone. Their hands touched for a moment, and they looked at each other grimly. "Then we best find the gear anyway." Kaori said, looking away for brief moment.

But when she turned around, Violet was already gone.

Violet ran, back into the changing room to get her clothes and stuff. Once she gathered it she ran away onto the far distant beach, outside of Undella Town. Kaori just couldn't go with her underwater and take the risk.

Violet took out a mask from her bag that would allow her to breathe underwater. It would have to do. She let out her Buizel.

"Bui bui!" it said eagerly. The orange water weasel jumped into the water, ready to dive already. Violet put on the mask, and jumped in after, leaving her stuff on the beach. No one would come looking for her or wander into the area. It was called Kyurem Beach for a reason, since the Ice Dragon did indeed eat humans long ago.

Soon, the two came to a break in the currents, and they saw a huge underwater building. It was crumbling, with moss and underwater plants growing within the cracks of the building. "Undella Ruins." Violet said to Buizel. Holding Buizel's paw, they swam into the ruins.

The sunlight filtered through the building, and they saw all sorts of gold and sparkly things. "We best make many trips. Here, you gather up the stuff, and I'll take it to the surface."

"Bui!" Buizel started to gather the gold pots and shards. Just then, a Confagrigus appeared in the gold. Buizel, terrified, dropped the gold and swam towards his trainer. Violet gasped at the sight of the coffin Pokemon.

"Whats a Confagrigus doing here? They usually live in the Desert Resort." Violet said.

Confagrigus was not taking Violet lightly. It used one of its four ghostly arms to reach out and try to grab Buizel, who backed away in time. Buizel created a sonic boom attack, but the sharp cuts flew straight through the ghostly coffin Pokemon. The golden Pokemon grabbed Buizel suddenly, and began to lay a curse upon it.

"Buizel no!" Violet grabbed her Pokemon, but then looked below, and spotted a swan-shaped vial, with a glowing liquid within it. It was clearly the Elixir of Life, and it was clear Configrigus was guarding it for unknown reasons. Configrigus began to drain away at Buizel's health. Violet looked at Buizel, then looked at the Elixir. She swam down in a fit and grabbed the Elixir, and then went back towards her Pokemon, who was almost fainted. Buizel was struggling to hang on, but no matter what happened, Confagrigus's high defenses were just too strong for a weak Buizel. It was either loose Buizel and escape with the Elixir, or save Buizel and loose the Elixir.

Violet began to panic, and when she did, Confagrigus grabbed her with a ghostly hand. It felt weird against her body, but she could not swim away. Buizel tried to use sonic boom again, but it did nothing. Then the curse finished its job. Buizel fainted.

Although Buizel is a water type, a fainted water Pokemon can still drown in water since it's breathing is irregular. The extra membrane around the lungs will go slack, and work as if it were on land. Buizel, who was out cold, did not feel the water rushing into and slowly out of its lungs. Violet watched in horror and knew suddenly she had to save her Buizel. Buizel was her first Pokemon, and she was not about to let it die before her eyes. Confagrigus's firm grip, however, reminded her that she was stuck and unable to help. It's red eyes and evil grin seemed to glow in the dark depths of the water.

Violet then dropped the Elixir bottle. Confagrigus, not wanting to have its relic destroyed, let go of her to use all four of its arms to safely catch it. Violet swam over to her Buizel, and pulled its Pokeball from her bikini top. She recalled it, and then decided she would have to retake the bottle herself. She swam down, where Confagrigus had just caught the bottle. It giggled at her, with a gravelly voice. Violet, not one for magic, knew she had no choice if her mission was to succeed. She focused her energy into forming a ball of light, which she threw at Confagrigus, knowing it would be sensitive to bright light after being in the dark waters for so long. The plan worked. It dropped the Elixir in an attempt to shield itself. By the time it recovered, Violet and the Elixir were already gone.

Kaori was pacing around the room in the Undella Pokemon Center. She knew that Violet would be back. When she slapped her hands down on her thighs, annoyed, and then she flopped down on the bottom bunk bed. She pulled out a copy of Wicked - The Life and Times of The Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire. As she read about Elphaba and Nessarose, the two polar opposite sisters, she suddenly realized how much Violet and Heather filled thie roles perfectly. Heather was Elphaba, despite being younger, and Violet was an un-handicapped Nessarose. Just then, out of nowhere, a cold breeze blew in, and a shadow from above.

"Do you really enjoy that book? I read it and so did Heather. We both though it bullshit."

"Violet, you yourself are bullshit. Why are you so wet? Why didn't you say anything about going to the beach?!" Kaori demanded, jumping up to see her magenta-haired companion, soaked to the bone on her top bunk.

"I couldn't risk your life! As it was, I nearly lost Buizel...." Violet paused. She had summoned Cresselia and begged for help, and left Buizel there to heal, for the curse had done more damage than originally thought.

The hardest thing  a Pokemon trainer of any kind can do is leave their closest Pokemon behind, knowing there was nothing they could do. Buizel was Violet's first. She never evolved it because it never asked for it, unlike her Scolipede, Mienshao and Zebstrika.

Kaori, seeing the pain in her friend's eyes, relented and the two embraced, and Violet kissed Kaori out of a sense of need and not want. Kaori, for a change, kissed her back.
