The Mewtwo Chapter
Act 1, Scene 1: The Journey Begins
Corey and Silver sat in the waiting room at Viridian City hospital. The black haired boy, Corey, who was taller than most 12 year olds, was sitting and meditating. Silver, the 8 year old red head, was pacing up and down the white-with-green tiled floor. He had his hands in his jacket pockets, which was as black as night. Corey was in a red sweat suit, his Pidgeotto on the arm of the chair.
“Pacing won’t make the baby come any faster, Silver. It didn’t for you. You were as slow as a snail.” Corey finally said, fluffing the bird’s feathers.
“Oh shut up Corey!” Silver barked. “I just want to get out of here. I don’t care about my future sister at all. I just want out.”
“I agree with that. My Pokemon Journey so far has been rather exhilarating. Mom and Dad should be thankful I wanted to see my sister, otherwise I wouldn’t be here.” Corey said, avoiding eye contact with the man sitting across the lobby. Corey knew that man. So did Silver. Then again, so did their parents. After all, he did work for them as an agent.
“I can’t believe all the measures he’s taking to protect her. Protect her from what?” Corey muttered so only Silver could hear. As blood brothers, whether they liked each other or not, they could understand what the other was muttering.
“I have no idea, but whatever the danger is, it’s huge. There are more minions than ever at the house and gym.”
“Something bigger than the baby is going on.”
“No questions.”
Just then the man came over to them. “Are you two waiting for someone here? Oh how silly of me, of course you are. I am too.” He then walked away, to a food court and suddenly a female walked over to that same seat. “Good day Arianna.” Said the man who had light blue hair and cold dark eyes.
“Good day Archer.” Said the red haired female. “My, what cute little boys. Are you waiting for your mother? I heard a baby was just delivered just now. Perhaps it was her.”
“I hate this use of coded talk.” Corey said to Pidgeotto, so only the bird could hear. “It’s just too much.”
“Pidgeyot?” it chirped in reply.
“Who are they, you ask? They are Team Rocket… My father, Giovonni, is the head of Team Rocket. My mother Narcissus is the second in command. Once upon a time, they were in love. But then Narcissus became obsessed with her beauty and power. So when I came into the picture, things were turbulent. Grunts were picking sides. Some were very loyal to Madame Boss, the last leader and my grandmother. So they were loyal to Giovonni. Others wanted a more assertive, 1000% fearless leader who took all risks and always seemed to win.
“When I was born, Narcissus and Giovonni took turns raising me, trying to make me the heir of their games. But as I grew older, I quickly caught on and remained distant to them both.
“Later, Silver was born, and Narcissus took an instant liking to him, babying him. But it failed. The constant fighting made him even more colder than me.”
“Shut up. What good does telling that bird about our family?” Silver hissed.
“I have to talk to someone, and you’re far from good company. But shut up yourself. Father is coming.” Corey said, recalling Pidgeotto to its Pokeball.
Giovonni was a tall, pale, cold man. He kept himself well groomed, like a mob boss should be. His Persian, his faithful pet from birth, followed him at his heels. His eyes were dark, and his face forever frozen to look as if he were analyzing you, even if he wasn’t. An “R” logo was on his suit jacket. He did not say anything, but he nodded at the children and then turned to go back where he came. Both boys straightened up and followed without protest.
Arianna followed from a distance.
Narcissus was laying in bed, her red hair dangling over her face in a mess as if she had not brushed it in weeks. A small baby was sucking at her large breast. “Damn brat wouldn’t stop crying until I decided to feed it.” She snapped as Giovonni stepped in.
“She’s a newborn. She hasn’t eaten ever.” Giovonni said, his eyes suddenly softening at the sight of his newborn daughter.
Corey coughed to get attention. “Um, mom? Dad? What’s the baby’s name?”
“Let’s name the brat after something on your side of the family. Corey came from mine. Silver was named after his eyes. Now it’s your turn, dick.” Narcissus said, not looking her son in the eyes.
“A lot of ladies in the Romania family are named after flowers. How about Primerose with an “e”?” Giovonni said, taking the baby girl off of her mother’s breast once she stopped sucking.
“Whatever. She’s your job, not mine. I did my work. I’m off to Johto after they let me free.” Narcissus said, pulling out an electronic cigarette, turning it on and putting it in her mouth.
“What kind of a mother are you? You raised the other two very well. They are obedient. I give you credit for that. So what’s different about Primerose?”
“I can’t stand another crying brat. Besides, I got work to do up by the Lake of Rage.”
The years passed, and once in a while, Narcissus came back to check up on Primerose, whom she never called by her real name. Primerose grew up under the eyes of her father and the Team Rocket minions around the house. At first, when Primerose was around the age of four, she had thin, fly-away hair that she struggled to cram into a tight tiara. And whenever Narcissus saw her struggle with the tiara and saw the frizzy hair, and the small body that had retained some baby fat, she felt stronger and everyone was left in peace… Or at least, as much peace she would allow. They weren’t off the hook completely, especially her ex-husband.
But as Primerose got older, and went outside to play with her pet Skitty, who was born the same day as she, the baby fat came off, and the sunshine helped her hair grow better. All she had to do was glide the tiara through her now thick, hot pink hair. One day, Narcissus came back and saw this, and became enraged with jealousy. Primerose was around six at the time…
“How could this have happened? How can her charm and beauty rival mine? I will not stand for it!” she said acidly to Domino, a top Rocket executive known for her advanced weaponry and disuse of Pokemon.
“Madame Boss would probably have killed the brat by now.” Domino said, toying with her black rose, which was really a weapon that shot out electricity as well as any Pikachu.
“Kill her eh? Madame Boss may have produced an idiot son whom I made the mistake of marrying, but she certainly had charming ideas for her day. Hm... I was not in Team Rocket during her reign. Tell me about her plans.” Narcissus said, smoking the electric cigarette again.
“She was obsessed with money. Everything was for profit. Her top executive of the time was a woman named Miyamoto. Miyamoto discovered the existence of Mew, the rarest Pokemon of all. Madame Boss wanted Mew and wanted to sell it to the highest bidder, along with the music the ancients played in its honor. As I said, everything was money, Madame Narcissus. However, one thing she started was never finished or really put into the works.”
“What was that?”
“Creating an immortality serum.” Domino whispered, as if someone were listening in. But they were all the way in Johto, at their Mahogany Town HQ. No one even knew there were there. If someone did manage to come in, the statues would set off the alarm, summoning her loyal grunts to send the intruder to the prison cells. If they made it past the grunts, they could cross an electric field with hidden Voltorb traps. The field was set to a super-high volt, but not high enough to kill a person.
“Immortality serum?” Narcissus dropped her cigarette and her dark eyes glittered. “As in living forever?”
“Yes.”
“Did she leave any plans? I must see this! Imagine being able to live forever!” Narcissus grabbed her cigarette and turned it off and put it in her draw.
“But Madame Narcissus! What of the child?”
“I haven’t forgotten her. She will be made to suffer. Perhaps I do not wish to see her dead, but I do wish for her pain and suffering! Yes, I want to hear her blood curdling screams!” There was a blood-lust in her eyes, a maniacal rage pumping in her blood. Domino did not flinch, but inwardly she wanted to run. Narcissus was known for being obsessive, but now the potential of living forever only seemed to make it worst.
One day, Narcissus came back with the promise to stay for a few weeks, claiming Johto was too dull for a woman with her demands. She kept a close eye on Primerose and Skitty. Primerose was always a princess, and Skitty was always her side-kick. But now she had other Pokemon, including a Vibrava, Snorunt, Dratini, Misdreavious and a Murkrow. They took on other roles in her acts. Snorunt was a lady-in-waiting because it was a girl. Dratini was the evil dragon, whom Vibrava, the handsome prince would have to defeat to “save” her. Misdreavious and Murkrow were usually the common people. The seven of them were happy, each with a smile.
Eventually, Narcissus went into her brother’s room. Silver was already 12, but he didn’t want to go on a Pokemon Journey yet. Giovonni was starting to get on his back about it, something he despised.
“My poor child. Does he ever drop the subject of your journey? It’s as if he wants you to leave.” Narcissus said, although she did not realize he had headphones on playing video games. When she didn’t even get a glance she walked right next to him, and took the headphones off of him. He gave her a cold look with his silver eyes. “How many times do I have to tell you to pay attention when someone important talks to you?!” Narcissus said, slapping his face.
“Whore.” Silver muttered. That got him another slap, but he didn’t care.
“Say that again, and you will never go back with me.”
Silver’s eyes softened for a moment. “Go with you? To Johto?”
“Only, and if only, you let me borrow a very large Pokemon.” She knew Givonni gave him some Pokemon. Silver rummaged through his jacket pockets, and pulled out a pokeball. “What’s in it?”
“A Flygon.”
“Hm… Yes, that will do nicely. Now stay in your room like a good boy, and I’ll be back soon. And no matter what you hear, don’t come to me.”
Silver shrugged and watched his mother leave the room, unconcerned.
Narcissus grabbed Primerose by the wrist, and dragged her out of the room. “Come with me, brat.” She said darkly. Skitty faithfully jumped onto Primerose’s shoulder.
“Where we going mommy?” Primerose asked innocently, unaware of the wrath in her mother’s heart.
“By the river, to play with a real big dragon.” Narcissus’s said, making her voice sound sweet, although a person with wisdom could hear the malice underlying within it.
“Oooh a big dragon! Is it a green one?”
“Why does it have to be green? Won’t a yellow one due? Or a red? Be grateful for whatever it is I have in store for you.”
“Me just curious, mommy.”
“Well, I don’t know what your brother gave me. But he said we could use it to play with.” Narcissus smirked, knowing Primerose couldn’t see it.
“Silver gave you the dragon?” Primerose’s amber eyes were wide with wonder and curiosity.
“Yes, he did. Where is your father anyway?” Narcissus asked, knowing one could not be too careful with the boss of a mob.
“He’s at Gym, and said he’d be back for dinner today. I miss him. He’s away a lot.” Primerose said sadly.
For a moment, Narcissus felt sorry for Primerose. She had gotten the same treatment, with both parents always away, and her pathetic sister, the semi-famous Professor Rose, always got the fame and glory. In fact, she was so much better, Professor Oak chose her to be his assistant in designing the Pokedex. In fact, she even gained the attention of Professor Westwood who helped write the Pokedex pages. The two fell in love, even if he was about twenty years older. Rose was so crazy, age hardly mattered. Just as long as she could have him. The two were not married, but they had two children so far, two boys named Reggie and Paul.
“Mommy?”
Narcissus shook her head, and regained her usual, superior demeanor. “What is it brat?”
“Why are we here, alone at the river?” Primerose’s cheeks puffed up in worry, as her puffy dress would get ruined if it got wet.
“So we can play alone of course.”
Just then, Silver came outside. “Mom, you’re needed inside! It’s an emergency!”
“What could be so important especially since I told you to not disturb me for any reason!” Narcissus’s dark eyes glimmered with blood lust.
Silver gulped, his silver eyes shimmering fear, and whispered into her ear. “What?! He did what?!” Silver whispered more into her ears. Primerose tried to hear them, but failed.
“I must go at once! Lance will not and cannot ruin my preliminary testing of the radio waves in Johto! Take care of the brat here. (Make sure Flygon eats her alive, will you?)”
Silver didn’t answer, but nodded. “(Then will you take me to Johto?)”
“(I never go back on my word.)”
Narcissus ran back into the house like a black-and-red flash, leaving Silver alone with Primerose.
“So, you want to play, eh? With my Flygon?” He kicked at her.
“Yes! Mommy said to take care of me.” Primerose said, dodging the kicks as well as she could. Skitty jumped in front of her, her teeth bared.
“Well, I didn’t promise her I’d leave you unharmed now did I? Now look, make yourself useful and stand there nice and still and quiet.”
So Primerose did, and so did Skitty, but to Skitty, something was off. Why would Silver say such a thing?
“Now Flygon… See the pretty princess?” Silver asked, his voice quiet and dark. The large green dragon nodded. “Are you hungry?” again, another nod from Flygon. “Good. Do with the pretty, delicious, mouth-watering, lovely, meaty, fresh hot blooded young Princess Primerose.” He then turned away, and walked towards the house.
Primerose suddenly felt scared.
And then the jaws were around her, attempting to swallow her whole.
“T-t-terrible!” Primerose sobbed to Professor Oak.
“What happened, child?” Oak asked softly. In the corner of the room within the lab, a young boy named Gary was watching his grandfather clean the mystery girl up. She was bloody, covered in teeth marks and saliva.
“It ate me! Or tried too! Skitty saved me… Scary… Flygons.”
Skitty had tackled Flygon at its throat to prevent any swallowing, and eventually a gag reflex was activated so Primerose would slide out. Once that happened, she ran off, Skitty and the other Pokemon following…
“You are very lucky, young lady.” Oak said, finishing bandaging her up. “Time for you to go home now, and I’ll…”
“No! I won’t go home! Never again!” Primerose kept eyeing her Vibrava with suspicion the whole time.
“Very well.” Oak said. Gary was horrified. A girl? Stay here forever? “You can stay overnight, in Gary’s room.”
“Hey Gramps! Where do I sleep?” Gary demanded.
“You can stay with her on the floor.” Oak said sternly, and that ended that.
So that night, Primerose and Skitty were curled up in Gary’s bed. His room wasn’t very neat, but not all that messy. Gary looked at her closely. She had large, pretty amber eyes that seemed to glow in the dark, but in a friendly way. Her shoulder-length hair was bubble gum pink, and her skin was pale, like most girls of royal linage. He suddenly found himself blushing, a sudden warmth in his cheeks.
“So… What are you going to do?” Gary asked suddenly, unsure of why he cared so suddenly for this girl.
“I don’t know… My brothers… Are of no good to me. Only Daddy.” She said, holding her Skitty close. “Daddy is the only one who loves me I guess.”
Gary found himself sitting up and gently sitting down on the edge of the bed. “I care about you.”
“Yeah right.” She said sharply. He was taken aback. “You didn’t enjoy the idea of sharing your room.”
Gary moved away, still feeling the mystery feeling.
Time passed, and Primerose came to the lab fairly often. She told her father what had happened. He took her to work whenever he was out of town.
Whenever she visited the lab, Gary would cautiously approach her, and was surprised fairly often when she embraced him and whispered in his ear about how much she missed him, even though they didn’t say much that night in the bedroom.
Soon, it was time for Primerose to attend school. By now, Silver was off on his own journey. Apparently he had fought bitterly with his father before he ran off. So now minions loyal to Giovonni watched Primerose.
In Pallet Town, the school was fairly small. Gary was there. Primerose went over to him. “Well, here I am.” She said. “Seeing you every day from now on.”
“I suppose so. Oh! Meet Ash.” He indicated the boy next to him, who had short black hair, and brown eyes. He was cute, but for some reason, Primerose preferred Gary.
Ash grinned and they shook hands. Just then, the teacher came in, and class had to start. They had to sit in alphabetical order. Primerose was right behind Gary, but in front of a girl who looked startlingly like her. She had icy blue hair, and wore a simple green dress, that looked old and beaten. The girl looked up and grinned at Primerose.
“Hi! I’m Alanna Silver. What’s your name?”
“I’m Primerose Romania…” Primerose noticed that the girl had a small water bottle around her neck, held by a worn out brown string. Alanna hardly seemed to notice.
Going home that day, Primerose was accompanied by Ash and Gary. When Ash got to his block, he waved goodbye and disappeared down the street into a nice, white picket fenced house.
Even though they passed the lab, Gary kept walking with Primerose to her mansion. “You didn’t have to come this far, Gary.” She said softly.
“I know… but…” he suddenly took her hands, causing her to blush, and nearly made her backpack slide off. “I care.” He said, reminding her of that night they shared the bedroom together.
For a moment, in a small urge of heat, they let their noses touch, and eyes close. But when she felt the heat from his mouth brush her own lips, she pulled away and dashed inside. “I’m sorry!” she called as she was swallowed up by the elaborate doorway.
After that, Gary remained more distant from her. Ash stuck closer to Gary but wasn’t above playing with her in recess. Alanna quickly became her best friend. “Where do you live Alanna?” Primerose asked one day.
“By the river, near Route 21.”
“Can I come over one day?”
Alanna suddenly looked shy. Alanna was a prankster, always playing jokes and games, getting in trouble often. Now she suddenly looked afraid of trouble.
“I’ll have to ask.” She finally said.
Primerose never got the okay.
A few months later, close to graduation time (as in Kanto, unless you were continuing your studies, you stayed in school for only a year), Gary came over to her. Primerose was already 10, but Gary at the age of 9 was still taller. “Hey Primerose, care to come over to the lab tonight?”
Primerose was suspicious. He hadn’t really spoken to her since that walk home. “Why?”
“To show you what starters you can pick from. Meet them personally.”
Primerose didn’t meet his eyes. “I think I will wait for that day.” She said simply. But Gary wasn’t about to let her go that easily. He grabbed her arm roughly.
“Rose…” He looked hurt at the rejection. “I’m sorry I wasn’t always the best friend for you… But if you must know…”
Just then Ash came over. “Hey, leave her alone. Clearly she doesn’t want to be bothered. Right Princess?”
Princess had become her nickname in school, for she always acted like she was of royalty. Now she wished she didn’t have the name, or that Ash interrupted them. Gary pushed her away.
“Go among your weakling friends then, Primerose. I don’t care.” Gary then huffed away. “Smell ya later.”
Ash looked at her, a sorry look on his face. He couldn’t say anything. How could he? Primerose’s was crying softly, and it was all his fault.
Alanna had beaten Ash up for what he did, when Primerose told her. Gary watched, but intentionally bumped into Primerose. “Can’t even fight for herself…” she heard him mutter.
What hurt Primerose was the idea that Gary didn’t care anymore. All along, he promised he cared. Now that he didn’t, her father was the only one left. Ash and Alanna were good friends to her, but Gary was special. And now that specialness was gone.
They had to sit together at graduation. “Primerose…” he whispered so softly, but Primerose heard.
“What?” she asked even more quieter. The room was dark, and suddenly their hands met.
“I’m sorry. I never meant what I said. I care about you… more than I care about anyone else.” Gary said, looking at her.
After the ceremony, they had met outside the school in a quiet place and shared their first kiss.
And then came the even bigger day. Choosing their first Pokemon. Skitty was in Primerose’s bag, napping.
Primerose picked Bulbasaur, Alanna picked Charmander, Gary picked Squirtle. Ash, who came late, picked Pikachu.
They all went their own ways… Or so Gary, Alanna and Primerose thought.
They did not know that Fate was watching over them and they would have many adventures… together.
