Episode 1: The Beginning

Young Drake woke up. Unlike most children his age, he did not jump out of bed, eager to start the day. He slowly got up out of his hard bed, and pulled the curtains across the windows. Drake hated his life. There was nothing good about it, except poetry. Whenever Dad was around, which was quite often these days, nothing was ever good.

Drake smelt breakfast being made. Probably slightly aged bread with not-so-fresh butter again. He went downstairs. His father was sitting at the kitchen table, with a huge newspaper in front of his face so you could only see his hands. Drake’s mother was at the stove, working on breakfast. “Good morning Drake. Your food will be ready in a moment.” She said. She turned towards him to give him a smile.

Drake’s mother was stunning. She had short, jet black hair. She wore ultra-red lipstick. Her eyes were shiny and black. Her pale skin made her look so fabulous. His mother had the voice of Swablu, which was quite lovely. She walked over with a huge plate towards his father, who put down the paper.

Drake’s father was almost equally stunning. One would have expected a huge, chunky man behind the giant newspaper. But instead, a man in a proper business suit, with the air of a CEO was behind it. He also had jet black hair. He picked up a piece of bread and bit it, chewing loudly. He swallowed and grimaced. “What the fuck are you doing?! Trying to kill me with this shit?!” He smashed his plate and food down on the floor, breaking the plate and food flew all over the floor. “I’m better off paying to eat at the office. And money is too damn tight to do that. And you know that, bitch, don’t you?! So why are you trying to spite me?!”

These kinds of outbursts were common. Drake tried not to make a whimper of sympathy to his mother. It had nasty results in the past. Namely, bruising on his face, back, arms and butt.

Drake’s mother began to clean up, not speaking or looking at him. Drake’s father, sensing he wasn’t going to get much out of her, turned towards Drake. “Is your breakfast any good, son?” he asked mockingly.

“It’s alright.” Drake muttered, hardly glancing at his father.

“Hmph. Well, lucky for you I’m in a good mood. I got something for you.”

Drake turned, in shock. He very rarely ever got gifts from his father. “What is it, Dad?”

“I got this from a guy at the office. It’s a Pokémon Egg. I figure you could economize it better than me. Well, I’m off.” He handed Drake a large Egg. It seemed to radiate with energy, as if it were magical.

“Thanks Dad.” Drake called and held the Egg gently close to him.

His Dad turned and stared at Drake for a moment then turned away to leave for the office.

-10 years later-

“Go, Umbreon! Use Quick Attack on that tree!”

The Pokémon Egg hatched into a Shiny Eevee, who later evolved into Shiny Umbreon. She stayed around Drake all the time. Drake was now 19 years old. He was considering it was finally time to leave. The Sevii Islands, his home, was no longer inspiring enough. It was time to see the world with Umbreon.

Drake’s father and mother came out of the house. They were both aware of his decision. Drake’s mother was for it, but his father was furious. But soon he realized Drake was going either way, so he just gave in.

Today was the day he was really leaving.

“We’re ready.” Drake simply said. Drake became a man of few words, and those that came out were slightly cold and harsh. He had his mother’s dazzling appearance, but his father’s coldness.

“We’re proud of the firmness in your choice, son.” Drake’s father said. He sounded as if he couldn’t care less about him leaving. “Just know you always can come back.”

“Yes, and call once in a while. And beware of those who lure you in with magick. Magick is not something anyone should tamper with.” Drake’s mother said.

The Shiny Umbreon rolled her golden eyes. She nuzzled Drake’s leg. “Why are we standing around? Let’s go already.” She seemed to say.

Drake bent down and pet Umbreon. Then he hugged his mother and shook his father’s hand. Then they left.

Drake and Umbreon lived on Five Island. They found a boat eager to take them because of their Rainbow Pass to Kanto. Suddenly from behind him hands covered his eyes.

“Guess who?” a female cried out in delight as she pressed herself close to him.

“Hi Kaori. Stalking me as usual.” He muttered and turned around to face his friend. Kaori was his only human friend from the Sevii Islands.

“Stalking? Such a harsh word. Actually, I’m starting my quest to become a Co-Ordinator. I think Unova is a good place to try first.” She said. She winked a purple eye at him and the breeze gently blew her dark purple hair. She seemed to be wearing some type of school girl outfit.

Umbreon rolled her golden eyes again. Kaori was annoying.

“Ironically, I am also going to Unova.” Drake said.

“Oh!! How wonderful! Maybe we’ll run into each other a few times. Or maybe, even better, we can travel together!!” Kaori squealed in delight.

“Um… no thank you Kaori. I like to be alone with Umbreon. Focus on my poetry. Look for fresh inspiration. That sort of journey. I’m not really for Badges or Ribbons.”

“Suit yourself.” She said, clearly hurt at the rejection. She walked down below deck.

Umbreon jumped onto a bench, and sat down on it. Drake sat with her. “You know, you are almost too human to be a Pokémon.” He teased. “You sure, you’re a Shiny Umbreon?”

Only Umbreon knew of Drake’s gentle side and humor. Umbreon purred and laid her head on his lap. Soon, the boat stopped at Vermilion City Port. They walked around. Drake watched as Kaori pushed past him, still hurt. She looked as if she had been crying.

Drake let her go. She wasn’t worth the time. Eventually, she’d come around again.

Drake and Umbreon soon find themselves at the airport, and Umbreon sat next to him on the plane. She was lucky enough to have a window seat. For most of the time in the air, Drake let her keep the shade down. But eventually, Umbreon wanted to see the world below her, so he opened them again.

Below them was the vast Unova region. It was green, had a huge icy mountain, a bunch of islands. In one corner, far away, like a speck, her golden eyes found a deep hole where energy seemed to be oozing out of.

“Umbre!” she said quietly. Drake looked, but his normal human eyes couldn’t let him see the hole.

Eventually, they landed in Striation City. The trainer and Pokémon smiled at each other. They were finally beginning their new journey, and nothing was going to stop them from being the best they could be!!
